The Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies seeks a full-time principal faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor in the non-tenure stream with primary teaching responsibilities in the Doctor of PA Studies (DPAS) Program. This is a remote work position.

Job Description:

Position Title: Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor

Essential Functions:

Serve as a Principal Faculty member of the Doctor of PA Studies Program, with a primary focus on instruction, curricular development, program self-assessment, and advising/mentoring doctoral students through the following duties, as assigned by the Program Director:

  • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission, goals, and competencies of the DPAS Program
  • Selecting applicants for admission to the DPAS Program
  • Providing student instruction in an online format via asynchronous and synchronous methods
  • Evaluating student performance
  • Academic counseling of students
  • Assuring the availability of remedial instruction
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum
  • Participating in program self-assessment and continuous quality improvement
  • Collaborating with staff and faculty of other Programs in the Department of PA Studies

Serve as Assistant Professor/ Associate Professor / Professor in the Department of PA Studies through the following, additional duties, as assigned by the Department Chair:

  • Collaboration and engagement in research and other scholarly activity regarding educational and professional practice
  • Communication and advancement of the strategic plan and initiatives of the University, School, and Department, including championing the commitment to Diversity and Inclusion and fostering an environment where all members of the university community can thrive
  • Representation of the program on department-, school-, and university-level committees and in community service activities
  • Active participation in local, regional, and national PA educational and professional organizations
  • Maintenance of applicable professional certification (NCCPA, etc.)
  • Support and participate in professional development opportunities and scholarly activities
  • Maintain a collegial learning and working environment for the faculty, staff, students, community partners, and other stakeholders
  • Assist in the upholding of current and developing of new Department and Program policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • Prior teaching at the professional level
  • Prior scholarship and/or research experience at the professional level
  • Three years of experience in clinical practice as a Physician Assistant/Physician Associate
  • Current National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification
  • Doctoral degree: professional or research

Preferred:

  • Record of intra- and extramural funding for training and/or research activities

Rank is commensurate with academic experience and credentials, with the following as a general guide:

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level should have experience in clinical care and be committed to developing an academic career in teaching and clinical, transitional, or basic science research.

Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience in clinical care and be able to demonstrate evidence of significant educational or new clinical program development and/or a record of substantial clinical, translational, or basic science research.

Candidates at the Professor level should have 6 or more years of experience and be able to demonstrate evidence of having exceeded the standards described for candidates at the Associate Professor level, resulting in the attainment of superior stature and national/international reputation in the field of learning, knowledge, and/or professional service.
